About Us
The Marina District includes Nine Clubs which are located west and southwest of the City of Los Angeles within Los Angeles County, California. The GFWC/CFWC Marina District was organized in March 1956 and Incorporated in August 1956. Our District ranges from the City of Santa Monica to the City of Beverly Hills and along the coastline from the City of Santa Monica to the City of Torrance.
The purpose of Marina District is to be liaison between Local Clubs in the District and CFWC, to disseminate information from GFWC and CFWC to the Clubs, and to pass on the concerns and questions for the Clubs to GFWC and CFWC.
The Marina District has thriving industries in entertainment, oil production, and aerospace (both aircraft and spacecraft), and encompasses the Los Angeles International Airport. These industries and businesses within our District influence people on a global scale in entertainment, technology (commercial and military applications), consumer products, and travel. The Marina District has a combined estimated population of 550,000 people. Our District lies along the coastline and has some of the most beautiful and popular beaches that can be found, which are typically listed as tourist destinations. With all this industry and beauty, each of our cities that make up our District all have a small-town feel. Our members are very city-minded in working to promote the welfare of the cities where they live, work, and play. Two of our clubs have the El Camino Real Bells which were placed starting in 1906 by Mrs. A.S.C. Forbes of the California Federation of Women’s Clubs.
Our GFWC/CFWC Marina District President has adopted as her theme “Following the 10 Pearls of Wisdom, Leadership, Honor, Friendship and sisterhood” 2022-2024. Her logo is a beautiful Pearl in an oyster shell. Traditionally, Pearls have symbolized everlasting love, loyalty, and wisdom. They also represent new beginnings and signify a fresh start. Our Newsletter is called the Ships Log with an image of a clipper ship. We have navigated a two-year Lockdown while still upholding the principles and values of our organization in a in world of Zoom meetings. Our CFWC President's special project is Advocates for Children, and her Theme is Bright. Bold and Beautiful.
We would love to have you join us! You can attend our District Council Meetings or look under our Clubs tab to find out when our Clubs meet next.
